Nadja the Cave Girl

Page one of a comic story for the first issue of Jungle Comics. This will be the last story that will finally complete the issue. I plan to keep this one fun and playful.

The Mad Skull

An idea I have for a villain pulp, in the tradition of characters like Dr. Fu Manchu.

A quick mock-up cover.

More Pulp Style Fun

A few more paintings. It's obvious I love the pulp covers from the 1930's and 40's and the paper backs and magazine illustrations that came later in the 50's and 60's. These are my modest attempts to capture that magic.

I had a little fun making some mock-up covers.

 Black Widow Bonney

Some water colours of a pirate girl character I got obsessed with. I have more sketches I'll post some time later. She's a lot of fun to draw.

More From The Jungle

Another more resent oil painting.

A water colour I did a few years ago.

A couple of oil figure studies I do for fun and planning out paintings.
The Big Old First Post

I have been meaning to start this Blog for some time, so here it goes. This being the middle of the summer months I figure why not start with a few pieces from the jungle.

A while back I was asked by a publisher to do some interior illustrations for a pulp style book called Jungle Tales featuring Ki-Gor of the Jungle. I did twelve ink drawings for the book and offered to do the cover.  I had worked up some rough preliminary sketches for them, however they had already assigned the cover to another artist. I still did the painting anyway, because why not right, it was fun.

Here's the rough sketch and the colour rough.

And then the finished painting. An attempt at the type of picture you would have found on the news stands during the pulp glory days of the 1940s.
